Best Sellers post #1: Why do I Read?

Reading is a way for me to escape reality. It allows me to transport myself to another world. When I think of reading I usually immediately groan and sigh. But after I get started and get into it, I look up and see how much time has passed and I realize, “oh that wasn’t so bad.” Reading is a good way to pass the time and help you become more intelligent all at the same time.

Most people just think of reading as an alternative to watching TV. They think why waste my time reading when I can just flip on the TV and watch Modern Family. However, they don’t realize how much they are missing. You will always hear people say after they have watched a new movie that it was good, but not near as good as the book.

Other people, I assume, read to get away from the real world. To escape the hard times that they might be going through at that point in their life. I cannot really relate to this, but I am sure that there are many out there that can. I mostly read because it makes me feel like I am in a dream. George R. R. Martin once wrote in his book A Dance with Dragons,“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”

  4. Thanks for including the George Martin quote--it's a great one to show the possibilities that reading opens up.
