Book 1 Project: Mrs. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Peculiar
Park One Day Experience
We are presenting an idea that will extend the experience of this book
for the fans. We are going to take you on an adventure for one day at the
Peculiars Park. At this park you tell us what picture you want to recreate and
we will help you recreate it. Try to be the first person to make us say, “You
have stumped us.” If you can stump us,
we will send you for a whole day to the island where Ransom Riggs got the idea
for this wonderful novel. You are probably thinking, obviously it is possible
to do this stuff if the pictures were created. But we are going to recreate the
pictures without digital editing. We will only be in one town a day and you
must be a native of that town to participate.

In this book the pictures really add to the effect of the story. We
thought it would be a fantastic idea if “..people mistook us for gods” (Riggs
254). The pictures help us to feel like the book is real right? So what if we
can actually make the pictures come to life. Jacob did not feel as though he
belonged until he was able to see his full powers in action. Therefore we
figured that if you could feel as though you had powers, you might feel more
connected with the book. With powers like
Emma’s and Olives, we see the pictures and immediately think, that is not
possible, but what if we can make it possible. For example, if you wanted to
try and recreate the picture on page 14 then we would bring you out a bolder
and tell you to lift it above your head as we took your picture. Then you can
compare it to the picture in the book and see yourself as a peculiar. You will
have the chance to be amazed like, Jacob was. You can see yourself and others
float in the air like Olive, eat bees like Hugh, or hold fire like Emma. How
would you like to have your own “Our
beautiful display” (Riggs 168). You could use the key facture in the book,
the pictures, to help see the story in a whole new light, the light of real
life. And if you win you will get to experience the full excitement and
creep-factor that Ransom Riggs felt as he explored the island. Feel the
“doorless doorway seemed to swallow me as I dove through it” (Riggs 102). See
this video for Ransom exploring the island. Just remember that this is a
limited time offer. We will only be in town for one day.
This experience will help you feel like you belong inside the loop. You
can live a day at Miss Peregrine’s home. This experience will help the people
who want more to be able to go into detail as to how the pictures were even
made possible or how it feels to be a peculiar. Just imagine how cool it would
be to float like Olive! This park also will allow you to stay connected with
the author. It was Ransom Riggs who posted the video to youtube and you could
follow him. He will for sure post more videos on not just this book, but also
his new books. Maybe even Hollow City,
the second book in the peculiar children series.

I love this idea so much! I loved reading this book, and I think this idea would really bring the book to life. Your idea is interactive which I really like, also it would also encourage children to read more.
ReplyDeleteFun ideas. I like how emphasize the photos and think that recreating them is a great way to experience some of the book. The island (and the author clip) experience is also creative. I like your insights about Jacob and when he felt he began to belong.
